Who was your favorite camp counselor? What made them so cool? Was it their ability to sing hundreds of camp songs night after night, or their amazing ability to listen and make you feel like you were important? Was it their uncanny knack for stopping trouble and keeping everything on schedule, or their gifts in helping create colorful and interesting crafts? Was it just that special way they made you feel safe and loved while you were at camp?
Volunteer counselors are a vital part of any camping program, and at this camp you’ll learn the skills needed to help create the “magic” of camp as a successful counselor. We’ll learn appropriate behaviors for camper-counselor relations, what to do in an emergency, how to boost campers’ spirits after a long day, how to best care for a homesick or lonely camper, and lots more! There will be educational parts to the week, as well as practical application of what we’re learning and reflection on our experiences. (And, of course, we’ll have our own devotional times to grow spiritually.) Most of all, however, you’ll have a chance to develop your own God-given skills and gifts to be the best counselor you can be!
