Adult Weekend

Ages: Post HS Dates: June 28-29
Leader: Jeff Blackman & Carol Myers Cost: $60
Housing: Autumn House
Theme: Second Marriages

Second Marriages are about hope, happiness and joy.  They are born out of a context of pain and disappintment.  Whereas the church is a community of hope and joy, it has seldom spent much time encouraging or even supporting second marriages, perhaps because it means accepting the pain and disappointment of a first marriage.  This 24 hour retreat seeks to offer support and encouragement for those in a second (or third) marriage, examining church and cultural bias toward the second time around.

In conversation with those who are there, we will explore the inherent difficulties and struggles of marrying again.  We anticipate issues such as; first marriage - failure or enlightenment; Blending the unblendable; Moving in with baggage; Theology of re-marriage; Forgiveness and redemption; as well as others that will arise.

The leaders of this retreat, Carol Myers and Jeff Blackman are married to each other.  Both have divorced, both are pastors of churches - Carol a United Methodist and Jeff a UCC Pastor.  They bring their experiences, their training, their struggles and their hope, happiness and joy to this work.
